4✨ it’s been years since I read about Lisbeth Salander so it was nice to jump back into her character. I also really enjoy reading books from authors in other countries because the style is often different. Also it’s a glimpse into another persons culture in this case how police in Sweden respond as well as how non white people are described and treated. The story itself was engaging and I like the dual timeline.

This is the third book in the Millennium series written by the new author who has taken the place of Stieg Larsson who wrote the first 3 books. Upon finishing this book, i've gone back and revised my rating of the 2 other books by this author from 4 stars to 3 stars.

Here's the problem with the new author: He uses all the people from the first three novels, and has an awareness of their character, but he fails to truly suck you into those characters. Everything is very surface. Yes, they act according to who they are in the old books, but they don't have the same very evident personalities and deep struggles.

I won't be reading (or listening, since i've used Audible for all six of the books) to any future books the author may write. Simon Vance narrates all 6 books, but even with his consummate skills, and he is excellent, the books just do not feel the same, they don't draw you into the story the way Larsson did.

Enjoyable but the character development a la Larsson just isn’t there.

I have read this series from the beginning and since the original author died and the current author took over, I find the books just...blah. This one was the worst yet—it seems as if the current author is barely trying to advance the characters, but instead just have them do the same thing over and over. I really miss Lisbeth’s computer hacking and just her action in general. Feels like this author is moving away from her as a main character. I honestly don’t know if I will continue with the series after this one.

Felt a bit all over the place, and the pacing was off. Lisbeth felt like a completely different character in this one, and so did Mikael here and there. I like the twists and plot, but it felt disjointed as well.

this was such a goddamn slog, why did we let this guy keep publishing his fanfiction

Ok pluss.
