It wasn't that this was a bad book, but Lisbeth and Mikael didn't really interact that much, and there wasn't much depth. The series is getting stale.
Because the first three millennium series books were so excellent it was always going to be difficult to follow them especially if you are not Stieg Larson that said though I enjoyed this further tale of Lisbeth Salander et al about the same as the previous the girl who took an eye for an eye and more than the girl in the spiders web.
This novel has a feeling of completion to it as though it was written to tie up any loose ends in the story begun with the girl with the dragon tattoo and I think in that respect it succeeds even if the side plot relating to the defence minister seems a little flimsy.
Overall it is a tale of Lisbeth herself tying up loose ends her self and as she says at the end bringing things to a full stop!

She was Lisbeth Salander. She was who she was. But he felt hurt all the same. She could have given some indication. The only thing that stayed with him from their encounter was her answer to his question:
“What are you going to do now?”
“I will be the hunter and not the hunted.”
He never managed to get her to explain…
I can’t help but continue reading this series as I quite love Lisbeth. She is dark, amazing and seemingly invincible. The ghosts of her past continue to haunt her, and this book is her quest to right the wrong in her family. Of course she eventually teams up with Mikael - that build up is quite satisfying when they do meet up.
He immediately sent a text to Lisbeth:
"Why do you always have to be so bloody clever??"
They are such good buds, no matter what happens, they are always there for each other when it counts. Somehow I think I’d like them to be more together, if you know what I mean? I’m not sure if that’s a writing choice… or if that’s all there is to their relationship. The plot itself is unnecessarily convoluted, just to lead you to the grand finale. I can’t say I enjoyed the story, but like to keep up on reading the series.

THE GIRL WHO LIVED TWICE brings the second trilogy in the series to a close. In it we find that Lisbeth Salander has a (fraternal) twin sister, Camilla. Lisbeth of the dark eyes and hair and Camilla of the blonde hair and blue eyes are as different as twins can possibly be. Yet it is dark Lisbeth who stands irrevocably on the side of justice while Camilla is the stereotypically evil twin. The introduction of Camilla adds another dimension to the dreadful childhood of Lisbeth that we learned in the first trilogy. The horror element in the Millennium series is palpable.
To his great credit, David Lagercrantz has kept all the dark thrills while adding characters that are easily recognized from today's headlines… giving them different names while showcasing their less than admirable personality traits.
While reading, it is necessary to keep all the varied threads of the story aligned. Putting all of the strands into a cohesive end is a hallmark of the entire series.
In August of this year, the six-book series will expand to seven with the publication of THE GIRL IN THE EAGLE'S NEST, by a third author, Karin Smirnoff. It is my guess, perhaps more a hope, that we are looking at a third trilogy making Millennium a trilogy of trilogies.
