‘Many dead never have a name and some not even a grave.’
Lisbeth Salander is finally ready to face her sister Camilla. She’s been planning, changing her appearance, awaiting an opportunity. She’s disappeared from her usual haunts, preparing to confront Camilla.
Mikael Blomkvist cannot find her, and he needs her help. Mikael’s telephone number has been found in the pocket of an unidentified homeless man. The man is dead, but as he died, he spoke the name of a government minister. Blomkvist wants to protect the minister, but he cannot do so alone.
The sisters are well-matched, and because of the past they hate each other. Lisbeth knows that Camilla will kill her if she doesn’t strike first. Lisbeth wants vengeance for recent events as well as for the past.
While I’ve enjoyed the three novels David Lagercrantz has added to the Millenium series, I enjoyed this one the most. The parallel story lines of Mikael’s investigation and Lisbeth’s search intensify
the tension, and I had to keep reading to find out how it would end.

About as good as the last book, but still pales in comparison to the original trilogy. While I think the author has a pretty good grasp of the characters that Stieg Larsson developed, he doesn’t seem to utilize them to their fullest, especially Lisbeth Salander. Both feel familiar, but more subdued. In the original trilogy, the characters really came alive and in the second trilogy especially books 5 & 6, the characters feel more like chess pieces.
It doesn’t help that this book has two disjointed plots. One about an accident on Mt. Everest a decade before the novel begins and a beggar in present day that turns up dead under suspicious circumstances. The othe plot involves Salander going after her sister as revenge for Holger Palmgren. I think the author did a good job of fleshing out details of Lisbeth’s and Camilla’s past that felt genuine to the storyline and themes of the books. But that plot too felt a little lifeless. I’m not sure what the point of the Everest plot was other than that the author couldn’t come up with a plot just about Camilla.
I know a new author is taking a hand at this series next year so we’ll see if that helps this series return to form as I did like book 4 quite a bit. These are great characters and the right author can bring them to life once more.

Lisbeth Salander's story continues. As with previous David Lagercrantz entries in the series this is good, solid thriller writing and sticks to the themes and feeling of the original stories but Steig Larsson, without ever quite matching the unique flavour that made them worldwide hits. Still a series worth following though.
