The ending, for me, was the best part of the book. A good read but lacks some of the intensity of the early novels.

As this series goes on with a new author, the convoluted plots combined with all the Swedish names of people, towns, and streets — WHY does every single street have to be named? — becomes so much gobbledygook. I listen to these because of the Swedish names, but it’s too easy to space out and miss chunks of the story. Initially the characters were charming, adventurous, and fun. Not so much anymore.

I was pleasantly surprised after the last book. I actually wondered if half the trouble of the last one was translation, since the formatting in the book was off sometimes too. It seemed like a half assed effort all around. Luckily this book has two things the previous one did not: A coherent, decent mystery and plot, and the good flow. This made it less of a chore to read as it was far less boring.

I still feel like this trilogy deeply misunderstood fundamental aspects of Lisbeth and Micke. It’s toned down. Less political, very little to none character growth, and less feminist. As with the others I would call this one toothless. The plotting is not great, but serviceable. It’s an alright commercial fiction book, which yet again, didn’t pay much attention to Lisbeth. It is however, a much better effort than the last two books and I recognize that and appreciate it.
medium-paced

I will continue to read these books as long as they’re published, I just feel that Lisbeth has lost a great deal of depth in the books not written by Larsen.

well done complex fast paced

Complicated ending that is worth it. I listened to it three times just to understand how it all worked out.

I’m a big fan of this series but felt a little let down with this one.
The author has weaved his web once more to create this big story interwoven and connected with a seemingly smaller one that will hold your attention throughout.
I am finding, however, that he is spending more time developing other characters within the tale than building on the Girl we love. Yes, Lisbeth is still kick-ass but there no longer seems to be this sense of the girl. It seems a little robotic, like he wants to focus more on Mikael and his story. If we can go back to focusing on Lisbeth’s story I think I would enjoy it a little more.
