Disappointing because I liked Ubik and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. It lacked all of the imagination and irreverence that I loved about his writing. He simply cannot write women characters. Strangely boring

A fascinating alternative reality novel. There are multiple protagonists. The world where Japan and Germany won World War II is explored through the eyes of several different individuals. It's a unique work - I don't think I'll forget the book easily. I've not read any Philip K Dick before. I found it difficult to get into the book to begin with - I think because it started in such an obscure and particular way from the viewpoint of a not altogether sympathetic individual - but I'm glad I persisted. After the first twenty pages I became fascinated by the story. I think his writing style is excellent - really pared down in that American way - few adverbs and adjectives, but also really personal and visual. I will certainly read more Philip K Dick now I've finished this.

I enjoyed this but for it being one of Dick's most acclaimed novels I was somewhat let down. I really prefer the speculative parts of this to the more metaphysical/mystical ones, which is what the main thrust of the novel ends up being. Still, conjures up interesting images, particularly when talking about the new caste systems and the Nazi actions in Africa

Un argumento excelente (aprovechado muy bien para la serie de televisión) pero pareciera que el autor lo concibió de igual manera como inicio de algo que seguiría desarrollándose... y no fue así.
