100 stars, I loved it!

I was recommended this book by so many people, and when I found it at a charity stand during Lockdown 1 I immediately picked it up and brought it home with me. And I am so glad that I did. It is completely my kind of book - there is a serial killer, there is a rumpled and damaged police detective, and there is a victim that needs saving. :)

The 4 Monkey Killer - 4MK - has a pretty gruesome MO. He kidnaps his prey, cuts off their ear, eyes and tongue, then posts them to their family in a neat little white box with black string tied round it. Oh and then he kills them. But a body has just been found, hit by a bus, and he is immediately identified as 4MK! Could the nightmare be over? Well, of course, there wouldn't be much of a book if that were it. No, 4MK has kidnapped another girl and so far has only had the chance to cut off her ear. Now the kidnapper is seemingly dead, it is a race against time to find the victim before she dies.

Enter Sam Porter, a police detective with his own demons, and one who is currently on leave due to his wife being murdered only weeks beforehand.

What follows is a cat and mouse game and one that I was truly hooked on from the beginning. You will be sucked into this, not want to put it down. It's fast paced and twisty and you will be gasping for breath when each new twist appears.

The characterisations were first rate. I enjoyed the banter between Clair and Nash, and thought their work relationship was sweet. You can see that Porter has absolute trust in his colleagues and this comes through when he is commanding them in their duties. We've got the usual outskirts cast of characters - the CSIs, the Captain, the Pathologist. All integral to the plot, but not scene stealers.

I couldn't recommend this book more to fans of thrillers, police procedurals, serial killer thrillers and general crime fiction lovers.

1ª vez leyendo a este autor y seguro que vuelvo a él cuando necesite otro poco de noir. Los tres puntos de vista hacen que no puedas parar de leer hasta saber qué está pasando. El diario del CM es canelita. Personajes algo planos
