This was such a slow burn book! I went into the book not really knowing what to expect, and came out with characters overcoming forces that were against them.

Reading Margaret’s thoughts and feelings of being shackled to her mom because she is her mom was so sad to read. You know that the relationship is not healthy at all, yet she clings to the blood relation and is willing to risk herself for her mom. Seeing Wes open up Pandora’s box was satisfying and allowed Margaret to be selfish for once in her life.

I do have a few questions that were answered in the end, but I did find satisfaction so it’s okay! Really good read :)

1.5 stars / there’s nothing i dislike more than books that make me feel like i’m wasting my time. i didn’t like just about anything here; the characters were boring if not downright aggravating, the romance was…weird, to put it mildly; the plot not interesting in the least! i’m sure it might be an instant favorite for some people, but there was a lot i simply didn’t like here.
thank you to wednesday books for the arc.

I want to say that I really liked the book but I'm so frustrated because of the way it ended? Both Maggie and Wes are nice characters that you can connect with. Really liked the writing style, like the way the author described how the day went slowly like honey dripping from a spoon, or the way Maggie despite the cold feels warm near Wes. Sentences like these make me sigh happily while reading.
But... I perhaps set myself for feeling frustrated because I kept expecting to learn something more about the hala or that it would have a different impact on the story or some kind of connection/reveal. And we got nothing. It was there, ominous and threatening, then the hunt happened and... that was it. Not to mention the whole talk Wes and Maggie have during the hunt which I thought was completely misplaced for the gravity of the scene and personally, took me out of the thrill and danger.
In the end, it was a nice and an easy read, but I kind of wanted something more.
