I love Julia Whelan as a narrator, and really enjoyed another book of hers, but this one fell super flat for me. I was bored the entire time, and had to force myself to finish. I’ve already forgotten the entire plot and it hasn’t even been 24 hours since I finished it.

I’ve been having a hard time articulating my feelings for this book. To me, it was a fine read. I love Julia Whelan and admire all of her work. However I couldn’t bring myself to care about Ella and Jamie. She laid the groundwork for it, but I couldn’t get there. I found myself feeling annoyed with the some over the top vocabulary choices, which made sense for the setting and characters, but felt like too much to me. I question some of Ella’s decisions and maybe that’s what prevented me from rooting for her. This wasn’t my favorite, but I’m glad I read it because Julia Whelan wrote it.

This was an alright book. I think that they missed the mark by not killing off Jamie in the book because it didn't feel realistic with him having a terminal disease and magically getting better enough to travel. I also think that Ella had the right to be pissed off that he kept his illness from her and she fell in love with him.
