Didn’t really love this one. I enjoyed the story lines but I found it a bit slow at times, and it was hard to stay engaged.

I did enjoy how things came together in the end, but it took me a while to get there.

Maybe I am a Sally Rooney girlie after all?!!

I liked this one so much more than Normal People, but it did make me want to give Normal People another read. I think a big part of my preference to this one is that I liked Frances significantly more than I liked Marianne. Frances is still a pretty textbook “unlikable main character,” but she was more relatable in her unlikeableness, which made her a more interesting main character to me. I think picturing Nick as Joe Alwyn also contributed to my enjoyment of the book.

Sally Rooney’s writing is always very evocative. It punches me right in the gut with its simplicity, but I still periodically feel inclined to look up the definitions of some of the words she uses. I usually prefer a plot driven book to a character driven book, but even though nothing really happened in this book I was gripped from the beginning.
