So Long, Chester Wheeler by Catherine Ryan Hyde
This is a genuine feel-good book in spite of subjects such as aging, illness and dying. We begin a journey of life experiences with Chester Wheeler. He is a completely unpleasant, uncouth, prejudice, curmudgeon and he is terminally ill and yes, a human being. He has burned every bridge and broken every tie with any who ever knew him but he still desperately needs care. His next-door neighbor Lewis is a young man who just lost his job as a software developer when he finds his boyfriend leaving him and taking their joint savings with him. Lewis needs money. With his back against the wall, he agrees to hire on “temporarily” as Chester’s caretaker. As the story unfolds, they begin a cross country trip in an RV learning some truths and gaining some understanding along the way. It is a journey complete with emotional and physical difficulties, frustration, and surprises with ordinary people doing the best they can under unusual circumstances. As this really good story unfolds it will leave you feeling more hopeful about humanity. If I am ever in need of elder-care, I hope there is a Lewis for me.
Catherine Ryan Hyde has written 44 books and I am certainly going to look for more of them. I would love for her to write a sequel about Lewis and the next chapter of his life.

I absolutely love the main character Lewis. He lost his job and his boyfriend on the same day. He is getting desperate for money and a job offer has presented itself. Doing home care for his horrible neighbour. Read it and you will adore Lewis as much as I did!

I am a sucker for these types of stories but this was beyond amazing!
These characters were so alive, they leapt off the page and from the moment I started I was hooked. I laughed, I cried, I felt all the squishy stuff, I couldn't ask for anything more from this book.
