This book is a fine entry in a great series. It's also the type of book that has some great ideas but leaves you wishing they were developed a little better.

Each Earthsea book is so different from the others, nothing like a traditional series where every book reads the same and provides a very similar experience to the last, that I fear younger readers won’t give these masterpieces the time or attention they deserve, or they’ll be put off by encountering something very new from book to book.
