"'Dear old world,' she murmured, 'you are very lovely and I am glad to be alive in you.'"

I was so surprised by how much I completely adored this book considering I never read it as a child. It utterly captivated me and is just the perfect combination of joyful and sad and just such a beautiful, timeless story. The portrayal of girlhood and young friendship is so magical, as is the way the book explores the concepts of home and family. I can see this being one I go back to again and again, and I'm so excited to get to the rest of the series <3

I haven’t read this book since I was a kid, and the joy of reading it again as an adult was acute. Montgomery is truly a wonderful writer, capturing the lush landscape of Prince Edward Island that is so perfectly described it feels real. All of her characters are full and interesting, and this sweet coming-of-age story is just as poignant and applicable now as it was when I was twelve. Undoubtedly a 5 star read!

there were so many moments when i had to stop and remember this book was written in 1905.

this book was pretty boring but in an interesting kind of way or maybe im just easily entertained. it kept me engaged and wanting to read more but the whole plot was literally nothing. it was all about a troubled girl growing up.

its very hard to describe but if you want a relaxing book that makes you think about the world in a different way this would be something i would recommend. if you like plot heavy books with exciting moments this is definitely not for you.

it was good enough im tempted to read the other books in the series.

I realize that this is a beloved story for many but I couldn’t stand Ann. Reading this was like reading a version of Little Women in which the story is only told through Amy’s eyes and without Marme’s gentle guidance but only Aunt March’s.
Ann is airheaded and narcissitic.
I will not recommend this book…ever.

Yet another found family that makes me sob at the genuine bonds that are built.

It took me some time to get invested in this story, partially because it was over-hyped as essential reading for girls and young women. I did enjoy Anne's wonder of the world and Marilla's internal dialogue when she thought Anne was justified in her response but still showed poor manners. I was surprised at the time span of the story; it is truly a coming-of-age tale. I am more familiar with The Little House on the Prairie which spends more time on the Ingalls girls' youth and I thought this series would have similar pacing.

I will start Anne of Avonlea soon and look forward to reading more of Anne's adventures!
