I should know by now that Emily Giffin’s writing style is not my favorite, but her story ideas are so intriguing I keep picking her books up. Something about the way she writes her characters simply feels inauthentic - they don’t seem truly three-dimensional and real to me and so much of what they do seems like fodder for some after school special PSA. I had that issue again in this book, and it kept taking me out of the story because I found most of the main characters to be, frankly, annoying. I was so tired of Tyson’s moral superiority and Hannah’s inability to get out of her own way or communicate effectively with anyone around her. Also, while I am all for diversity of characters and representation in fiction, I can  tell when it’s being used in a “check a box” kind of way and that’s how the
WLW storyline
and, to a lesser extent, Tyson’s character as a whole felt to me in this book.

DID NOT FINISH

Too many god references in just the prologue, had read too many grief-based books this month.

This is a book I put on my summer tbr since it gave off summer vibes (hence the title.)

This one sadly fell a bit flat for me. I did enjoy it, it was bingeable (I read it in two days) but it didn’t hit like I was hoping it would. I felt like some parts of the book lacked a bit of depth. There were some scenes or lines that told me what was happening rather showing me.

I did still think this book had a beautiful message and would still recommend. It is a lot about friendships and how those continue to grow and thrive over time and through hard experiences and grief.

I would definitely look up trigger warnings for this book though! The book cover looks like it’s a fun summer read and while it is at times, it touches on heavier subjects as well.

I really enjoyed this story about college friends and the pact they make after a tragic event. It’s about enduring friendship and being there to celebrate the good times and support each other during the bad times.
