This was an enjoyable read that transported me to Capri where I’m now more than ready to visit. I loved Emily’s description of the island and the history of it. Having followed Emily for a long time, I loved being able to identify parts of her in the book (connection to UVA, running, etc).

The story is about four college students who become friends but are then struck with grief, sadness and confusion when one tragically loses her life through suicide. I enjoyed hearing each person’s perspective and how they each had their own personal issues to deal with and overcome while still being there for one another….truly what friendship is.

Kept me interested. I like the multi povs but it felt rushed at the end.

Summer, Tyson, Lainey, and Hannah meet on the first day of university and form an instant bond. Despite their wildly different backgrounds, personalities and goals their friendship sustains them through four years of university. And then a tragedy they didn’t anticipate will change them forever. Now adults and living separate lives they will come together when Hannah suffers a personal blow that sends her reeling.
This book definitely hits some hard topics, alcoholism, depression, suicide, but it’s approached without judgement. All our main characters have a journey of discovery to go on and they will support each other the best they can. They might make mistakes but they will do their best. I loved all of this but I really enjoyed Hannah’s storyline. I would read another book about all of these characters but the ending was great and it was a nice wrap up.
Thank you to Netgalley and Random House and for letting me have an advanced copy for review.
the Summer Pact hits shelves July 9 2024

The Summer Pact is a thoughtful reflection of friendship, grief and growing up. This book has the hallmark Emily Giffin style of honesty and humor. The adventure was vivid and entertaining and the relationships were captured honestly. I was expecting this to be a bit lighthearted, which it wasn’t. Once I recalibrated, I was pulled into the story. The ending felt too abrupt to me, and wished it had been expanded on. I would have read another 50 pages for more resolution, happily. I loved the three pov approach.
