I didn’t know what this book was about, it got recommended to me by a colleague a year ago.

The way the story & the main character Nora, touched base with my own life was insane for me to read. As someone who has dealt with depression on and off (and is currently depressed), this book was equally sad, recognisable and hopeful. I myself am also part italian - from my grandfather’s side (same as Nora), I have cats who also give me emotional stability and an animal lover all around, eat mostly plantbased, am very passionate about climate change, is going to study Philosophy and am visiting Scotland this year. For me personally, I couldn’t have read this book at a better time. It was odd to read - with on how many levels in touched with my own life: the emotional instability and the regrets and perspective on life are all things I share with the main character. I’ve never experienced this with a book character before and I hope my journey in life will conclude the same as Nora’s in the end. Hopeful, eager to pick-up life again with all it’s heartbreak and challenges. I hope I won’t see myself as a void or shell of a person anymore, but as a Volcano - turning my own wasteland into a fruitful one.

May not resonate so strongly with everyone but it sure did with me. I highly recommend the audio version as Carey Mulligan reads it and she does a stellar job. I could listen to her voice all day.
