I personally thought this was a good sequel, however I did enjoy Cinder more than Scarlet! This could be down to the fact that Cinder ends on such a cliffhanger that you're wanting to know everything at once and are on a hangover afterwards!

I really loved Scarlet and Wolf's relationship, even if it was unclear at times how it would pan out!
I liked the overall series development in this book, although it was a small part of the book it made big impact and made me connect the dots!
I feel as though Scarlet is kind of another character that was just brought in with no particular reason behind her?

Cress may prove me wrong so that's up next!

Hats off to Marissa Meyer for being able to make her readers pick the next book in the series with anticipation!

I have a few reasons why this book was not good:
1. BORING. It was extremely boring dragging on and on. I kept zoning out while I was reading it. Basically just finishing the book to say that I finished it.
2. I did not like Scarlet. I’m all for the strong and capable and independent kind of thing but she just seemed like a hormonal teenager who acts like she’s better than everybody else and can’t see past her anger or her love for Wolf.
3. It just got weird at the end. Like I didn’t even know what the heck was happening with all the wolf-men and the bloody battles. I was just so confused.....and bored.....

Sometimes I have to think about a book to know how I really feel about it but the moment I put this book down, I knew I didn’t like it. I was so disappointed. Cinder was a really good book and I really liked it but this seemed like a huge let down to me. You do have to hand it to her though, it is an interesting concept and an interesting way to retell fairytales.

Definitely a favorite young adult series for me, and to be honest, I'm not sure why. I don't tend to be super into redone fairy tales, but am just in love with this series by Marissa Meyer. I have listened to both Cinder and Scarlet on audiobook, and I find myself driving the long way home from work so that I can hear more each day.

Warning ahead - there are parts of this review that will give away things from Cinder. Consider yourself warned!

I continue to love Cinder. She has that "bad girl" side to her that won't let her get pushed around anymore and I find it endearing. For being a Lunar cyborg, she's pretty amazing. Breaking out of prison, trying to find a connection to how she happened to be who she is, and trying to leash the power within her - she's one busy teenager. Add to that, she now has a partner in Thorne, who I love. He's quirky and delinquent, and his comments often had me laughing aloud.

We also have two new characters in Scarlet (who is off to find, yes, her grandmother) and Wolf. Scarlet, who I also love, has beautiful red hair (a bonus) and a fiery personality to match. She was raised by her grandmother who is now missing. Turns out that Grandma has a very big secret which she is keeping from her captors. Wolf, is the perfect version of a kick butt protector. I would just always hope he was on my side!

I missed Kai - yes, he was in the book, but he wasn't himself. He played a very different role in this book, and I wanted to scream a little bit for my own version of the end of the story. Meyer definitely left me hanging at the end of this one. I am sure she'll suck me back before long, but I have found these stories to be such a wonderful break from reality - keep them coming!

Why didn’t I pick up this series earlier?

AHHHHH This had me REELING. The love arc? ugh. perfect. The mystery?? There was a hot second where I actually thought Scarlett might be Princess Selene. It's a teeny bit disorienting with the switch in character POVs, but its a symptom of YA and Audiobooks tbh. Not at all the issue of the book itself.
There was a point where I thought Wolf died and needed to pause it to process it. God. Amazing writing. Lovely story. Still on the high tbh.

I'm loving these fairy tale retellings. First Cinderella, then red riding hood, and mixing the characters together in a Sci-Fi/fantasy world. There is romance and action. This is classified as YA but seems it can be read and enjoyed even slightly younger, definitely at the younger edge. Much of the book is again predictable, not only because the fairy tale. I'm interested to see where else Cinder, and now Scarlets story goes and who else is picked up and intertwined along the way.

So this book switches perspectives which isn't my favorite. I could not care less about Kai so all of his chapters were boring. But the other characters' chapters were interesting and the ones that annoyed me at the beginning ended up being enjoyable at the end. The best part of this book is the world building. It's amazing how much sci-fi Meyer puts into the stories while still adhering to a vague storytale retelling. It was an enjoyable book, what can I say.
