The two stars is for the ending... otherwise a good book, but such a disappointment!

The writing is quite good but there is little to no plot. It's very slow and sluggish and the story is non-existent.
I don't like how the black characters are written and the way their dialogues are written borders in the offensive. I don't understand the hype regarding this novel.

I really enjoyed The Little Friend, and thought Harriet was really fun and sassy. I loved following Harriet and her bestfriend Hely throughout the story as they tried to solve the mystery of her brothers death. My absolute favorite character in this book was definitely Hely. You could tell he really admires and cares for Harriet and it was just the sweetest thing! I wasn't a huge fan of the ending it felt incomplete because there was some things left unresolved.

2.5. Suffered through this for a book club at work. Probably would have enjoyed if it was edited a bit shorter. The end was cute and it painted a detailed picture of small town Mississippi in the 70s but it was really a slog to get through.

I was disappointed with "The Little Friend". I really enjoyed Tartt's first novel "The Secret History", but this one just fell short for me. I could appreciate her beautiful writing, but the novel seemed like it really could have used a better editor as at points it just seemed to ramble.
