I read this because I watched the movie and really liked it. I'm glad I did it in that order because the movie differs from the book heavily and I don't know if I would've gone for the movie otherwise. The movie is way more of a rom-com and I personally found that way more satisfying. The book plays with that theme a little but ultimately it wasn't the main focus. Still, there was a lot to enjoy.

I completely understand why characters like Malcolm and Gav + Barnsey weren't featured in the movie. They really dragged the book down and added little to nothing.

Although I wish it had more of what I originally loved in the film, I still liked this a lot. It was funny with morally grey and well-written characters.

Lastly, Nick Hornby's writing can be very confusing for me. I don't always understand what he's getting at and I either find myself reading lines several times or just finally moving on. Sometimes his jokes are a real miss or they go straight over my head. Idk.

(3.5) WHAT !!!!! the end??????? i don’t like it. it was good until like the last 50 pages…..then it felt so rushed. anyways i uhhh wanna listen to the album juliet so bad I WANT TO LISTEN TO YOU AND YOUR LERFECT LIFE actually just found out there’s a movie of this so i’ll watch it when i get home

edit: i changed my mind bc i listened to you’re my best friend which was supposedly included on his new album and i saw a review that mentioned how uptown girl is supposed to be annie and now i feel like i have more closure and also that maybe the point is that the people changed and there’s no closure and for people to be conjecturing online about the possible endings or what each of them did at the end of the novel how did the end up how did they disappear makes us just like duncan which is actually a really awesome ending but also i still kinda didn’t like it so i’m gonna settle on a solid 3.5

This was pretty typical Nick Hornby. It wasn't his best, but it was cute and fun.

I really like the way Nick Hornby writes. This is a fast read, but not fluff. Very enjoyable.

The negative reviews here are pretty surprising to me. While Nick Hornby isn’t a writer for everyone - and who is? - I think “Juliet, Naked” tells such a lovely, light story. And as a musician, I feel an extra connection to it. It appreciates and has fun with the strangeness of love and friendship in a way that a lot of authors might see as “schmaltzy.” It’s not vitriolic, and it doesn’t mean to be. if you want that book, Hornby has several. But if you want a read that you can just enjoy and relax with, “Juliet, Naked” is definitely one of those for me.

Read only 10% of the book and OMG are the main characters pretentious and irritating? Love Hornby's novels - hate this one with a passion.

If there was a 1/2 star option I'd probably give it 3 1/2 as its not quite as good as High Fidelity or About a Boy. It was a quick, funny, enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend this to my btx friends for its take on internet message boards.
