If you’re a fan of that whole- If you love them let them go concept- you’ll love this one. It’s actually really adorable how much it kills him and how much he loves her but she just can’t remember any of it. Well, it’s sad, of course, but also adorable. It takes someone being truly and deeply in love to be able to put aside their emotions and do what is best for the person they love regardless of what if it crushes your heart. It does have a happy ending though, thankfully.

This book hit the spot. Before We Were Us is a contemporary romance with closed door spice scenes, found family, and a beautiful story about an unlikely couple who find their way back to each other. I really enjoyed both characters but especially Jonah. My heart ached for him throughout the book but it was so amazing to see how Laurens character changed and her feelings grew again throughout the story. I liked that this book offered multiple view points and also the flash backs to earlier in the summer. The flashbacks helped fill in how their relationship progressed and made you appreciate Jonah and his patience.

This story was wonderful and I look forward to purchasing my own copy!

As someone raised on Created To Be His Helpmeet (🤢) I strictly avoid evangelical romance novels except to analyze them but this one snuck past me. Thomas Nelson works hard at hiding the religious nature of its fiction so this is a note to future me.
Sad because I liked the premise but I am not down for 300 pages of complementarian propaganda by the people who published Heaven Is For Real.
