This novel takes a different spin on what I would call a Hallmark classic love story. From the very beginning, you’re hooked—expecting a sweet, heartwarming romance. But then, this book hits you with something unexpected: a tearjerker. And not just any tearjerker, but one that will make you rethink the meaning of love, loss, and resilience.
I was completely captivated by the beginning, thinking I had found the perfect love story to return to over and over. The chemistry between the Lauren and Jonah seemed effortless, the perfect setup for a feel-good, timeless romance. But the author doesn't let you settle into that fairy-tale comfort. After a tragic accident, everything changes, and the couple is put to the ultimate test. The emotional toll is real and raw, and it felt like I was on a rollercoaster of feelings.
This book truly explores the complexity of relationships in a way I wasn’t expecting. It’s not just about the highs of love, but also about how love can survive through the deepest lows. The struggles and hardships they face after the accident had me in tears more than once. It’s a powerful reminder that love is not always easy or straightforward, but it can be the thing that helps us heal and keep going.
Prepare to be whisked away to a beautiful setting—somewhere you’ll wish you could visit yourself. The author does a fantastic job of creating vivid imagery that pulls you into the world of the characters. But make sure to have tissues on hand, because you’re going to need them. The emotional journey in this book will stay with you long after you turn the last page.
Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Publishing for my DRC!

Lauren Wentworth graduated from hospitality school 7 months ago and during that time she has improved and expanded the Pinehaven Lodges, and acquired a fiancé whole is the owner/manager of the family owned resort. Problem is after taking a bad fall down a set of stairs, she can’t remember any of it and the man who she was going to marry is someone she can’t stand but has to work with. Jonah Landry has no problems remembering Lauren who he expected to marry in a couple of weeks but has to get her to fall in love all over again.
A sweet comfy romance that is a good way to spend a lazy afternoon, I enjoyed getting to care about both main characters and a warm cozy romance. It is a Christian themed story. Recommend to readers who enjoy clean, Christian romance.
A 3.5 but I’m rounding up because overall I enjoyed this closed-door romance/contemporary fiction story. Switching between current and the past, readers follow along as Lauren falls in love with Jonah the first and second time. The story is full of detail, allowing readers to imagine being at the cottages in New Hampshire, to feel Jonah’s heartbreak, and to understand Lauren’s choices, even if they don’t agree with them.
In addition to the book itself, I also liked the audiobook. The narrator did a great job, mixing intonation and tone to allow listeners to know when there are shifts within a chapter.
My biggest issue with the story: I found it hard to like Lauren. For example, she spends the first third of the book not wanting to remember nor showing much compassion towards Jonah. I can understand her being set on returning to Boston at the end of the year but she takes it a step too far (e.g., not looking at photos, not asking questions about the missing time, etc). Even as the book progresses, I struggle with how she treats Jonah (e.g., accusing him of tricking her to stay).
I also felt like the final 20% of the story felt rushed, creating some plot points left unaddressed and things felt too convenient (e.g., the letter).
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
