If you can’t do Dexter level stuff - don’t read it

First of all, why did I have to wait over 200 pages for spice? Unacceptable in a dark romance, in my humble opinion. Secondly, there are only a handful of spicy scenes and the majority of those are only moderately spicy. This book was interesting and so weird. I’m annoyed at everyone who freaked the fuck out about the ice cream scene. It was definitely less disgusting than some elements that came to light prior to the ice cream. Still gross but not worth the hype if I say so myself. The book is pretty decent but I wouldn’t categorize it as dark romance cause there’s not enough spice. All in all, a quick and engaging book that’s easy to get through in a few hours.

Honestly, I ate this book up. It’s seriously one of the best books that I’ve read in a while.

I simply enjoyed it a lot, I loved the connection between the characters and I thought the plot was interesting.

This was the first dark romance book I’ve ever read, it only took me a few hours to finish since I just couldn’t put it down.

I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more Brynne Weaver books and hopefully I can see Butcher and Blackbird sometime in the future!

I wasn't going to read this since it's so far outside of what I normally read, but it was so divisive in my book club that I couldn't resist and WOW was this a ride. It took me a while to be able to read it with a straight face because it read like it was pulled straight off of Wattpad. Our protagonists were BEAUTIFUL and MISUNDERSTOOD and FLAWLESS and still somehow deeply FLAWED and also IN LOVE but NOT IN LOVE and I couldn't help but wonder who the protagonists were originally when this was a fanfic back in the day.

And things just didn't get better. Weaver went so over the top with trying to make things edgy and rough that it was just over the top and borderline silly. Whether I'm talking about the violence or the smut is up to you.

Anyway, this was a solid reminder that I can usually tell if something will be my style or not before I read it and while going out of my comfort zone can sometimes be good, other times it's a 1* read where I wish I could get back the time I spent reading it.

Even though I was shocked by those trigger warnings, I can say I enjoyed this book. Only issue, is that it’s a tad cliche. Other than that, nice work 👍🏾

If you liked the show "Dexter," then you might like this book.  Two serial killers who only target "bad" serial killers get together.  The book is very funny, and there is lots of sex.  I can see why it's a TikTok favorite.  The author nicely gives you a two-page warning of content triggers at the beginning of the book, so you can decide if this is something you'd want to read.  I found it entertaining, but I tend to like the macabre.
