The author only used the black characters as plot devices and didn’t treat them like people. Atticus being like a white savior. Would not recommend there are better books that discuss racism without acting like a savior to them.
Update: It’s been over a year since I read this book I hate it still if not more than I did back then, but if you want a better book about racism read “I know why the caged bird sings” by Maya Angelou.

I really enjoyed this! I’ve watched the movie a few times, but never read the book. It’s honestly pretty similar. I really enjoyed scout as a narrator. This is obviously a serious book that handles some serious topics, but it feels cozy. If you haven’t read this yet I do recommend it. It’s an easy read as well for a classic.

idek what to say about this. fantastic use of symbols and a plot that isn't slow even though it includes 3 years of events. part one is alright (setting up the pieces on the board) but part two is amazing. harper lee really builds an image of scout's neighborhood and the people living in maycomb. i feel this town is doomed forever and simultaneously hopeful that they can change. lots of discussion of racism, gender, and class divides throughout that are so important but i feel like i cant even articulate my words for what needs to be said about them so just read the damn book please
