Great message following mature themes but it didnt grip me. I disliked the first few chapters because there was a bunch of info dumping so reading it felt like sandpaper and i had to plow through it. The court scenes were easily my favourites even tho i have no interest in law so that says something ig. Could of easily cut down to 28 or 27 chapters, a 3 star book for me.

* If your looking for a book that talks about the racist problems poc people face id suggest a differnet book, one written by a person who actually experienced racism.

* This was written by a white woman with mostly white characters carrying the "white saviour complex" and she just adds in racial slurs whenever wich ( as a white person) can pull you out the story because reading it feels wrong. I get the whole point of the book is how divided the white and black comunities are but reading this with a modern perspective makes the writing come off a bit privleged.

Listen. To give a bit of context about how uncomfortable this book is to read. The n-word is used 48 times in this book and there are 281 pages. Meaning every 4 pages there is a slur or 2.

An overated book in my opinion and i will not be reading the next one.
(exucse my spelling mistakes you can blame Miss Dyslexia)

This book was very good, and I am sure that if I didn't read it for english class, and was fully engaged it would be a 5 star read. I finally finished and read the last two chapters--which were so amazing. I like the way it all ties up at the end, and I love Scout.

so i read this in school and i'm gonna be completely honest, i did not read the entire book. i read some chapters here and there just for the purpose of doing my assignments but... I HATED IT!! i read the first 5 chapters consecutively and could NOT get into it. i don't like the plot, it's super slow, and it's just complicated! i feel so bad talking about someone's writing like this but i did not enjoy it. there are racial slurs in the book to this day which i find offensive, but they don't even apply to me (i just think we should stop normalizing the use of those words just because it's a classic. they should be adapted to today's thinking). the only reason i am giving it 1 star is because it ultimately does have a good message. maybe if i try and really read it again i would like it more, but for now it's a big no.
