Not nearly as strong as later books by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. Interesting picture of life at Versailles and reasons for the French Revolution

If I could give half stars, this one would be 3.5. It was an enjoyable book, it just didn't have the spark and depth that [b: The War that Saved My Life|20912424|The War that Saved My Life (The War That Saved My Life, #1)|Kimberly Brubaker Bradley|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1453342842s/20912424.jpg|40277782] did.

I wanted so much to love this book, but it didn't quite meet my expectations. Which, I suppose isn't the books fault. It was good. But I felt like I got to know more about what happened during the time period of the book, rather than get to know the characters, which I thought was equally as important. Good. But not Great.

Good. Only Ok on the historical stuff -- writing not stellar. BUT, a good story, strong charactars, great friendship, great slice of royal life.

From the title of this book, I thought it would have a fairytale feel. "The Lacemaker and the Princess"-- it sounded enchanting. I could not have been more wrong. A story of a lacemaker who befriended the princess during the French Revolution, both families were torn apart. The story was sad. It was well-written, however, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes historical fiction and is willing to read melancholy books.
