I like the found family trope but I dislike sappy stories, & the two usually go hand in hand, which is always a bit of a dilemma when I’m rating books. So I guess I’ll put this one in the middle. The “romance” was definitely lame though. If an 18 year old child got my number from someone & kept texting me & crossing my clearly stated boundaries, I would block them. Period. That’s not romantic. Exclamation point.

It's been 13 years since I last read a Sarah Addison Allen book, and I sure did miss her. Was this story a little hokey and predictable? Sure. Was the ending overly dramatic and cheesy? You betcha'. Do I care?

Not at all.

I loved this story and all the characters in it. Zoey is your quintessential quirky teenager, and yes, she could be irritating, but she had a good heart, and that came through in SAA's writing. I also loved the setting. It really gave an ethereal feel to the story and made me miss the five years we were stationed in Charleston, SC.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and appreciated it for what it was...a light, charming pallet cleanser. I'm gonna miss the Dellawisp!

I liked the idea of this story, but Allen’s patchy, disjointed writing style made it difficult for me to connect with the book.
