I really enjoyed her story and being able to listen to her tell it through the audiobook was amazing. I wish it had more about the Children Of G0d cult she grew up in.

I found the army portions to be more engaging. I am curious of what she has to say about good versus bad leadership. It’s well written.

This book was compelling and impressive. Daniella is such a fighter and inspires me with her tale of grit. I was a little put off by how often d*ke was thrown around in this book…but I trust the author after she talks about meeting Obama shortly after Don’t Ask Don’t tell was repealed. Good read!!!

Daniella Mestyanek’s writing is highly intelligible and exceptionally vulnerable. This was a very difficult listen due to the dark content, but I was so glad to get to be a part of Daniella’s story as a listener. She shares a very unique experience of being raised in a cult and also sheds light on many pertinent systematic issues within the US Army, based on her personal experience. I recommend this book to feminists, cult scholars, and anyone with an interest this sort of subject matter. Please read the content warnings.

Daniella is an incredibly insightful, knowledgeable, and relatable voice on the subject of high-control groups. Her combination of unique experiences and education on the subject make her perspective utterly invaluable to a nuanced understanding of how cults & other high control groups operate successfully, including the psychological manipulation of it’s members.

This was a very difficult read as the content can be very heavy at times but overall this was an amazing and enlightening story of self discovery, perseverance and the dangers of group behaviour in any form.
