A wonderfully written memoir that goes over the nuances of trauma of being in a cult. Although that barely scrapes the surface of this work.

Daniella's story was heartbreaking and insightful, as well as crushingly honest about American culture. It was interesting and a good read.

I lost a bit of interest in the second half, mostly due to pacing. It felt like some parts were rushed and others were drawn out so I ended up skimming through some of it.

I knew nothing about this book going into it, but I learned so much about the cult “The Children of God” and I loved how the writer started from her earliest memories. I found it very interesting that she was always aware something wasn’t right about her life and she would leave one day. And then the fact that she joined the army, another cult, after escaping The Children of God was insane to me. I understand the circumstances but it was just painful to listen to (I read this as an audiobook). Overall solid read.
