I thought one whole book about a four days war would be boring--which I read in like more than a week--but this wasn't just about war, it was more about...I don't know... maybe it was about how life is, about how it is being human.

There were no good or evil, no friends or enemy. Every person was good as well as evil, each person was friend and enemy to each other. There were no protagonist or antagonist in this book, everyone was the hero and the villain of their own stories.

The character development were profound, triggering in me a self-examination. Made me wonder how Joe Abercrombie can have a really deep insight about human and life.

Although stories about war weren't really my usual preference, and I tend to skim the actions (sorry...), I love this book, this was kind of a new reading experience for me.

It's really annoying goodreads doesn't have half stars. This book is excellent. If you love Abercrombie this is easily in his top 5, certainly better than all of the age of madness. A great read no doubt about it.

I liked this book but it’s not the best in the First Law world. It felt slower than others. One battle from multiple perspectives in a short amount of time with a lot of characters. Abercrombie sets the scene well and the war scenes are pretty descriptive. I didn’t connect with the characters as much as I wanted to. But I still love the humour in Abercrombie’s writing. I cannot wait to continue my journey through this world.
