I enjoyed the first book much more than this one. It didn’t feel like very much happened. I think with some editing, such as adding in extra small monster fights (go full Hobbit and have giant spiders or attack vines etc! ) or revealing Thadred’s powers and having him tame the kelpie sooner, the pacing could have been improved.
Parts of this book were dragging so much that I seriously considered DNF-ing. I’m glad I didn’t, since I did enjoy the ending and am curious where the series goes from here, but this was a bit of a slog for me.
