I don't want to give this book a bad rating because they're not bad stories, they just happen to be the type of thing that I hate. I'm not sure what it is about magical realism, but I'm not sure if I'll ever enjoy it. As far as I can tell, magical realism means that the characters can be opaque and there doesn't have to be logic or cohesion or narrative in anything that happens. I'm not sure what the point is. Books with magical realism feel like someone attempting to write down their dreams, with all the plot shifts and face swaps and nonsensical happenings. Dreams can be awesome when you're dreaming them, but never when being told to other people.

I did like Presence, which I only just remembered because sadly it's fading away in my memory as fast as all the other stories.
