I never try to read books all over again but this is one I’m getting for my bookshelf so I can find the things I missed the first time. The worlds Oyeyemi weaves are fascinating and filled with such colorful characters. Definitely one of my top reads ever

The stories were a little uneven but I thoroughly enjoyed Oyeyemi's writing.

It definitely has its moments, but quite often the stories seem to be more about an idea the writer thought might be interesting than telling a story.

I need to buy this book. I don't know if I've ever been so simultaneously engaged and challenged by a piece of literature - usually it's either engrossing and easy to read or challenging and I slog through it. But this book was complex and rich, some stories I liked more than others, and, as another goodreads review mentioned, the stories are weird. But I think Oyeyemi has to be a fucking genius. I could feel myself missing things as I read, I feel like I could read this another ten times and discover new things every time. Most pieces I was sad to finish because I wanted full and complete immersion in the worlds Oyeyemi created, or I wanted to know the characters as intimately and thoroughly as possible (this was partially satisfied by Oyeyemi's habit of revisiting characters in different stories). And I was definitely sad to finish the book, but I know I'll read it again. I can't not.

Not my cup of tea, but the stories were well-written. The magic realism fails pretty hard in these stories.

Not my favorite collection of stories and I thought the idea of overlapping characters was interesting at first but became a little gimmicky. She has some beautiful prose but I think her pacing leaves a little something to be desired. I felt like she was moving so quickly at times that I felt like had missed something, and reading some of the other reviews, it seems like I'm not alone.
