I did things backward's with this book.
I actually watched the movie first. I didn't know I would read the book, but I ended up getting to book as a Christmas gift. I was excited to read it because like all books vs. movies the book is usually way better.

This book is the story of an average guy set in 2045. His name is Wade Watts. He like most of the world is always logined into an online virtual reality game called The Oasis. The creator of The Oasis, James Halliday set up a competition inside the game, that would start when he passed away. Wade or as his avatar is known as Parzival joins the search with billions of other players to find the three hidden keys. These players are called gunters. Once the three keys (Copper, Jade, and Crystal) are found by a gunter they are given a huge prize for completing the search. He meets friends along the way (Art3mis, Aech, Shoto, and Daito) and they become The High Five.

This book was very captivating and I highly recommend this book, even for someone like me who is not emersed in '80s culture. Ernest Cline did a very good job making the Oasis very real. I recommend this book to anyone who loves the '80s, born in the '80s, or is a fan of reading sci-fi fantasy books.

HECK YES

I loved this audiobook! The narration was fantastic and the plot was unique and different. The entire world and characters Cline created were amazing... I can't wait to see the movie in a few months.

The only downside to this book was that, being the 90s baby that I am, I didn't really catch the 80s references that are constantly made throughout the book. However, it didn't really matter because the story flows even without knowledge of the 80s.

Overall, this was a really great read! I highly recommend the audiobook version.

I loved this from start to finish!

I should start with the inevitable comparison to the movie. I loved the movie and I'm so grateful for it but I can't believe how different the book and the movie are. I guess only the most basic elements are still there, everything else has changed. I definitely see how some things wouldn't have worked in a movie, but I don't mind it either. This way I get to have 2 sort of different adventures.

It was so easy to read and I had so much fun recognizing all the references. Especially near the end it was hard to just put it down.

It's also one of the first times that I feel like the book ended at just the right spot, it never dragged on. If anything it was even a bit rushed near the end, but I found it fitting, feeling excited and nervous about the outcome.

I most definitely will read this book again one day, I will also definitely read the sequel. I'll admit I'm scared I won't find it as enjoyable though.

This may just be my new favourite book. I pray that the upcoming film does it justice. It unveiled a vortex of emotions upon me! Good job, Ernest.
