This was my first Audible book. So maybe I just didn't get invested in the story because it was not me reading a book.

Or the story is just nostalgia for nostalgia's sake. Most of the references is a character just saying the name of those things, it is not used in anyway to further the story, everyone who matters in this world like nerdy stuff.

The enjoyable parts of this book are definitely anything dealing with the world and Oasis. Once they get into opening gates it loses my interest because of how poorly action is described in this book.

Movie is better in my opinion.

It’s definitely a YA book, almost like it was written to be a movie. Not worth reading if you’ve seen the movie, IMO.

Started off a bit slow, then I started to get fairly into, next thing I know I'm already more than halfway through the book. At times it got a bit too "nerdy" for me, but it's nothing to complain about since that's what the book basically is. If you're into pop-culture, classic games, and overall a pretty good time, then I suggest you read Ready Player One.

This one hit me by surprise.

I got wind of Ready Player One through friends, it was supposed to be very good and gaming themed. I saw that the movie was coming out in a couple of days so I just picked it up. I can’t remember the last time I finished a book that fast or was that hooked from the get go. It is easy to read and you really want to know how the story continues. It is funny how reading about a game is more luscious than playing one.

I especially liked the worldbuilding and character building aspect of the novel. The first half was more gripping than the second half but I swept right through all of it. There were small bits here and there where the main character somewhat annoyed me or parts that did not seem 100% coherent. -How can you generate enough power through pedaling your bike for a bit in order to power a heater and a nice gaming rig for hours in subzero temperature?- Straight up burning some food would be a more efficient heat source. But that are just small details that didn’t hamper the overall enjoyment. The novel is not especially well written or structured in any way, but it is a really delightful and rewarding read. I had a cataclyst-ic blast and would like to enjoy some OASIS action myself. (And I fear I won't be enjoying the movie nearly as much as the novel)

This book is alright, not great but not bad either. It sort of reads like a self-insert by the author, and the main character is a bit of a Mary-Sue. But overall it was a quick fun read, with a lot of fun pop culture references.

"I'm not crazy about reality, but it's still the only place to get a decent meal." Groucho Marx

A re-read for me, so I knew what I was expecting. This book is like World War Z for me. I pick it up, it puts me in a different world, and I can block out everything else. (Dystopian worlds where everything is going to shit call to me, I guess.) I know it's not a perfect book. There are some things that could be improved upon pacing-wise or addressing the possibilities of Wade's super-specific skillsets playing out perfectly almost every single time. I think Aech's/Helen's character is super interesting conceptually in understanding how profiling in the real world can translate to a virtual space and seeing how people can find ways to avoid prejudice and racism.  (I wish we could have done more than just a blip of Wade realizing it once they meet in person, but I also feel like that would need to be a joint novel to ensure everything is addressed appropriately.) Art3mis/Samantha was and still is one of my favorite characters, especially as a girl who was often the only girl in gaming parties. Overall, I gravitate towards this read for the nostalgia and love of pop culture. I love a good scavenger hunt, and this book is nothing but puzzles, tasks, and challenges.  I still haven't read Ready Player Two because I'm nervous about how things will play out, but I'll never stop going back to the world of the OASIS.
