Loved this geekfest

So I read this one based on all the reviews from this website.

I did my late teens and most of my 20's through the 80's. I have spent many a quarter playing the majority of the video games listed in this book, as well as a module or two of Dungeons and Dragons.

This was a fun ride through time that brought back more then one memory and a smile or two to my face as i pictured myself hunched over a game consol talking with friends about the important topics of the time, you went out with who? Did you get a kiss or more? Such and such team just sucks. You know, the important stuff.

I wanted to rate this book higher but of course as we all know you cant do half stars (can they not fix this).

So for a video game wrapped around a love story it was not a bad book. I thought the end was a bit weak. Once we get to the final confrontation it was way to fast. It seemed like a race to get to the end. Slash here stab there oh i beat you and saved the world, well ok and good night.

It was fun, it brought back memories, and it was over.

okay i seriously love this book! I was expecting it to be a little bit childish because it was a video game type of deal but honestly, it is my expectations. It was four stars at the end, but when they referenced the Monty Python thing that is what really made me laugh and I thoroughly enjoyed that and the ending was very blissful. I thought there was just enough action as well as futuristic things which I’m really into! Really glad I’m ending my reading competition with this book!

Audiobook

This was a really fun book and an interesting look into a bleak future of forgetting all problems and escaping to virtual reality. The constant references to pop culture (of which there have to be thousands of) is really fun, though I cannot tell if the book's reliance on other media and stories takes away from it all, as the book is driven by this. Though even with this, the incorporation of other media is very creative and entertaining! I would very much recommend this, though I would be curious what someone with little pop culture knowledge would feel about it, please share your thoughts with me if this is you, thank you.

Brilliant! what a story!
I was quickly and completely immersed in the oasis and its contest. All the way, thinking with the characters how to solve Halliday's puzzles. Although i had little knowledge with the 80's pop culture. but during this read i wanted to watch every movie and play every video game.
It was very impressive, the author's knowledge, a true geek :D
The story is an amazing unique adventure, through the oasis, a virtual reality game. A geek's heaven :D The contest was all about Halliday and what he loves. He succeeded on making the whole world love what he loves and obsess about his obsessions.
The contest itself doesn't test the true nature of the players. But it definitely brought the best qualities in Parzival. A brilliant character, his actions surprising me every step of the way. He is truly good, noble, brave, selfless. All his characters were special and lovable in their own ways, except of course for IOI and its sixers, a true evil.
It was a very entertaining story with a very happy ending.
A definite Never a dull moment :D
