I had my first exposure the Ready Player One universe over the summer while watching the film adaptation of the book. I fell in love with every aspect of the movie such as the characters, visuals, and most importantly, the storyline. The movie was super fast paced and action packed, which I loved. Unfortunately,it wasn’t until recently that I was made aware that the movie was a film adaptation of the book. I consider this book as impossible to put down, one that was a page turner- which is probably the main reason why I finished this book so quickly. I also decided to read this because the last time where I read a book set in the future was probably in middle school, and wanted to visit a dystopian universe again. From page one to the end, I was hooked and it made me love the book and the films’ universe even more.
The story takes place in year 2044, and the universe is not the most attractive place in world. People have turned to an interactive video game known as the OASIS as a way to keep hope. The creator of the OASIS, James Halliday, lover of anything and everything relating to the 80s had died and created a digital Easter Egg that contains all of his wealth. However, obtaining the wealth is not easy, considering that Halliday created several tasks containing the keys and whoever is the first person to successfully obtain all three keys gets all of the wealth. Teenager Wade Watts (also known as Parzival) has become obsessed with finding the Easter Egg, and has devoted every hour of his life to finding it, alongside the help of his friends. Once he finds the first key, things spiral out of control, and ends up having a power hungry corporation, IOI (Innovative Online Industries) embark on the search for Wade- it results in a never ending competitive war between Wade and his friends versus the IOI.
One thing I loved about the book was the descriptions. The descriptions that Cline had given were so detailed- which I loved because it really helped me understand the real world that Wade is living in and the virtual one he loves so much. Even the descriptions of the avatars I loved, and I typically find that super boring! I also really liked the action as well. I really liked how Cline described all of the action scenes, which was really cool to read and made this book super difficult to put down. In fact, as I was reading, I the descriptions helped my brain visualize what was happening.
However, with every great book there are always a few flaws. Personally, the biggest let down for me was when Wade had met his best friend, Aech in real life and when he found out that even though Aech’s avatar was a guy, in real life, he was actually a she. Of course, I was shocked, and very surprised, but I was still disappointed and upset. I also wished there was a little bit more of description between Wade/Parzival and his love interest, Art3mis. I would have liked to have a little more information about their relationship and a little less time on how Wade was functioning in the real world.
While it is common for people to say the book is better than the movie, and this reading this book after seeing the movie has made me say that the movie, in fact is better than the book. All in all, I really enjoyed this fast paced, well written, action packed novel and I recommend this book to everyone!

LOVED this book!
This book was recommended to me by Wren. And boy oh boy, did she hit it out of the park. To be fair, she isn't the only one who had told me this book is great, but because of her I actually sat down and read it.
And I am glad that I did. This book is like Sword Art Online with a bunch of 80's love and video game references. If you like video games; you need to read this book. In some ways, it is the video game nerd book heaven, and it's exactly what I wanted. The book is well written with some mystery thrown in and some great characters. There was very little I didn't like about this book. There are times when there is a lot of information thrown at you about Halladay or another subject, and it's necessary for the story, don't get me wrong, I just wish it could have been less drawn out.
But that is a minor complaint compared to the book as a whole. I encourage people to read this book. It is just so much fun. Also, please try not to let the hype get to you. Yes, this book is awesome, but I had to get over some things at times because the book was hyped up WAY to much for me. It hindered my enjoyment at times because I was expecting SOOOOOO much out of it.
In the end it pleased me more than I can say. Lots of fun. Adding it to my favorites list. Go read it.

One of my favorite books that I have read this year. I didn't want it to end. I listened to the audiobook and the narration by Wil Wheaton made a great book even better. I highly recommend this one!
