Didn’t get even half of the references in the book but that clearly didn’t stop me for loving this story. I just love how witty and clever the plot and all the tasks are and the characters were such a surprise (I’m thinking about you Aech).

Easy as it is engaging to read. Inventive world loaded with 80's culture. Only complaint is the last chapter is a little cheesy for my taste, albeit a perfect ending to the story. As a reader/fan it didn't satisfy me completely.
Read book after watching the movie and felt the the book is far more superior!
Soo much nostalgia, tribute to the old school classic games and consoles.

I really liked this book. I could have done without all of the video game explanations because I already knew (I'm talking explaining MMOs not anything related to Halliday's hunt.

An excellent read - very different from the movie, but I suppose that’s my chief complaint; the movie was better in some respects.
The book reads more like one guy’s hero fantasy. Wade gets to do all the cool stuff and save the day with just a little help from 3 or 4 sidekicks. The movie is a friendship adventure sci-fi.
Still, however, a good read.
