This book tries too hard to copy Lord of the Rings but with a really terrible writing. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how this series is so popular and how he managed to get so many books out.

The story starts of very veeeeery slow. For the first 30-40% it was tough to really get into. But after that, I couldn't put the book down! The plot started really ramping up, sets up were either paying off or becoming increasingly enticing, and every character just really started to shine a little more (maybe blame that slowness at the start due to being only stuck with Rands POV).

I do think I'll keep reading the series. I'm not necessarily that enthralled with the overall plot and happenings of the world, but I'm really excited to see how these characters are going to grow. I feel almost each and everyone one of them has been set up to play a huge role in the future books and in ways that I imagine would be amazing! If it wasn't for my interest in the characters, I would have dropped the series and I can imagine that if it wains in the future I won't be sticking around for too long ;-;

Will say, I dropped the rating a little due to some writing choices. The lore drops were a lot. The amount of times we just got told about the workings of the world via an impromptu story was not enjoyable. They were filled with jargon and such heavy world building, I felt like I was barely grasping at what was being told. He also had a tendency to end chapters with "all is well and good. UNTIL....", which made me eye roll a little.

Man reluctantly becomes the chosen one. Man travels. Woman folds arms under her breasts. 5/5 fight scene at the end. This review could be for any of the WoT books but I'm sticking it on the first. I'm not going to finish this series.
