Sometimes a celebrity memoir just hits all the perfect notes, and this co-written beauty by the iconic indie pop duo Tegan + Sara is one of those.

There is the perfect amount of ground covered in this book, alternating chapters between the twins and giving their accounts on their high school years. The stories include anecdotes about drug usage and punk shows, truly introspective bits about what it was like to discover you were queer in the 90s, and a deeply truthful and personal recount of their relationships with their parents, their friends, their lovers, making music, and each other.

The perfect read for pride month, the perfect read for music lovers, and the perfect read for anyone who loves a well-constructed memoir.

A different telling than the tv show or graphic novel, and likely the truest account. Very teens in the 90’s. I really enjoyed the last bit where their career is starting.
It’s great to see 90’s queer stories and the mental hoops we jumped through to avoid labels. Reminds me to have compassion for people that are going through that now.
