Starts out strong with the search for the killer, and has a compassionate approach to the victim. Unfortunately, once the killer was found, it becomes slow, with not much concrete information revealed. In the end, it's hard to tell, based just on the given information, whether Keyes was actually a serial murderer. Considering we don't even have strong evidence in the book of any other murder aside from Samantha Koenig beyond Keyes's confessions, and Keyes was constantly lying, it's hard to take his word for fact. There's also a considerable amount of reverence for some shady law enforcement interrogation techniques and practices given by the author, which is wild considering how incompetent law enforcement is throughout the book.
