A great read. The world could use more books like this one.
Cute read. Definitely a good one to teach kids manners and selflessness.

Suddenly remembered that I'd read this book at primary school age. Loved it.
Definitely a great classic read! Was different from the movie but equally as good! 4.5/5 stars! Thinking about doing a book talk comparison video from the book to the movie I love c:
“Whatever comes," she said, "cannot alter one thing. If I am a princess in rags and tatters, I can be a princess inside. It would be easy to be a princess if I were dressed in cloth of gold, but it is a great deal more of a triumph to be one all the time when no one knows it.”
A Little Princess is Pollyanna (seeking the bright side despite tragedies) meets The Secret Garden (an India-born heiress loses parents and comes to Britain meets Dickensian villains (a cruel and money hungry schoolmistress). Yes, there are quite problematic passages and themes regarding imperialism, orientalism and racism, it is a product of its time and these moments should be a place of reflection and lessons about a troublesome history, as other pieces of classic children's work ought to be and not glossed over. Still, a star less for that.
Reading this as an adult (having seen the movie adaptations as a child), the story strikes quite differently. But the underlying morale of the story being kindness, no matter what trouble come about, compassion, belief in oneself and a power of imagination, that is as strong a lesson as it was many years ago. The power of stories, friendship and kindness, that is the strength of this book. The plot twists and turns might be kind of obvious, but they are still quite interesting and thrilling. The friendships between the girls, the rivalry, the malice and cruelty, all is, even though a bit exaggerated at times, indeed real and present to this day.
Princess Sara teaches us that we are worthy and strong, regardless of our situation. It really makes you think about what good each person can do in one's life and how little it takes to make someone's life at least a bit better with compassion and perseverance. The bakery incident is indeed one of the strongest passages in the book. A book to make you think as well as being entertaining, I think it is a children's classic for a reason.

Such a pretty book and if I ever had a daughter, I'd have her read this.
I loved how Sara always knew someone else was worse off so she never complained about her circumstances. She always believed good would happen.
It is very different from the movie that I've seen many times and watched often when I was a little girl. Becky was my favourite character from the movie and in the book, along with Ram Daas.
