Reading this brought me right back to constantly rewatching the movie adaption when I was a child!
sara crewe: the blueprint for maladaptive daydreaming
Be still my beating heart - all this nostalgic thumping might be the death of me. Beloved childhood classics don't often hold up to the harsh light of adulthood. A Little Princess is one that does. It's well written, not at all preachy (unlike many books for young ladies that were written around the same time), and is compact and concise. So many classics are long winded and monotonous, but this is an old fashioned princess romp with a great plot and lovely imagery.
I love this book. I have read it and re-read it countless times over the course of my lifetime, and will continue to do so. I love the illustrations in my edition, too. They're perfect and I love the scratchy, sketchy way they're drawn.

A bit dated in the ideas of people in different social classes, but still a warm classic for the holidays.
