Gorgeous bit of escapism.

I love rereading childhood favorites and this story is just as I remember it. The editing in this edition could have be better (sometimes there weren't any spaces between words) but I just love the story so much!

Childhood staple

Short, sweet, and shallow.
hopeful relaxing medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

It's a classic fit for young readers. I loved it

A Classic is classic for a reason. A story of staying true to oneself in the face of extreme loss, and finding the resilience to move forward in goodness and kindness despite it all.

THIS WAS SO CUTE!!!!! it was so sweet & beautiful & i just loved sara! she's so imaginative and optimistic. i loved seeing everything from her point of view. i adored the part where the girls were making fun of her for pretending to be a princess, and she just said, "yes, i pretend i am a princess, so that i can try and behave like one." -- it honestly just made me want to pretend to be a princess like her! it's also lovely that we have the same name :)

Okay, this book was lovely. I’m having E read it for her Literature pick right now, and I preread as I had never read this one! All through the first part I kept waiting for something terrible to happen. I knew it had to, but I was still so sad for little Sara when it did!

Lots of ideas explored: the power of imagination, making the best of your situation, what it means to be a Princess in terms of your words and actions.
Loveable characters: Yes

I read this book to pieces when I was young.
