Story that touches your heart. Great for children around 9 all the way to adulthood. Classic tale of behaving like a princess even in facing bad times and bad people. Just a short heart warming tale with the most lovable protagonist out there.

I grew up loving this movie. I don't know why it took so long for me to read the book. This was such a nice, nostalgic blast to the past. This book is like a warm hug and reminds me that I need to use my imagination a little more.
More of a summer book, very good, but not in the right mood now, will continue.

A good book, but it has definitely aged. Sara is the original Mary Sue, and the book often calls other children fat or stupid which is really strange to me since Sara is meant to be this kind, good-heartedly girl. I think that's likely just a product of it's time, and I don't want to take away too many points because of that. I think there are better books that accomplish a similar message to this one, like Pollyanna for example. I think I was also swayed by having expected something more like the 1995 movie which I watched many times as a kid. I did not realized was only loosely based on the book.
