Reminds me of Pollyanna, and also has a lot of similarities with Frances Hodgson Burnett’s other work, The Secret Garden.

A sweet and uplifting story with hardships that ultimately are resolved and Sara is always saved from the ultimate disasters, whether through rats or pretend or The Magic ;)

Some old worldviews that are represented can be a bit grating to read (classism and racism mostly).

Ultimately a sweet and nostalgic novel that is well suited to read with younger ones.

I really needed something comforting, so I returned to a book I adored as a child. The illustrated version from LitJoy was fun to read. I found myself just as enraptured as I was at age 10. Truly a classic.
