I am always slightly sceptical when a new story begins after what worked well as a trilogy ends, which is perhaps why this took me a little while to get round to, but with this I really needn't have been. The Brothers Hawthorne holds it's own in the series just as well as the first three books did, and just as with those books I found myself struggling to put this down - and eager to pick it up again when I did!

As is to be expected, the story is filled with mystery and twists, and I truly commend Jennifer Lynn Barnes for the in-story puzzles. I absolutely love seeing how the Hawthorne boys and Avery figure things out, reading between the lines to discover an answer that most people would miss at first glance, and probably also give up on trying to solve.

It was wonderful to return to this world and spend some more time with the characters, especially the brothers who are honestly a treat and easy to fall in love with. I can't wait to see what's next for them all in The Grandest Game later this year!

Book was not necessary and easily could’ve been made into two Novellas for each of the characters.

Still holding out hope for Avery and Grayson
