Liked the character development, characters themselves, the dredging aspect, the bonds between the characters.

Disliked lack of fantasy, its slow pace—took more than half of the book to get to the action after explaining the setting, rules and introducing characters, little character exploration despite character development, the insta  love between the mc and her love interest, the ending, how the author told most of the events rather than shown—I don’t like that pov :/

This is the instance where I’d prefer a longer book bc there’s so much potential for this book. But I will try the sequel and maybe the side characters books bc I’m curious about them.

I loved this story. It had me hooked from the beginning, and the deeper I fell into Fable's world the more enticing it became. I loved the tension, the mystery, the intrigue, and honestly... the sea. As someone who grew up swimming in the ocean every summer, this book put me back into my happy place. The world building was absolutely incredible and the plot was complex and super enjoyable to follow, as were all the characters in the book. The only thing that could have brought this book to 5 stars was (possible spoiler)
the progression of Fable and West's relationship. It felt like the author expected the reader to suspend belief and make assumptions based on past history she didn't even touch on during the first half of the book. While things started coming to light later in the book, which mostly patched up the holes at the beginning, it still kind of felt like their relationship was founded on shaky ground at best.
That aside, it wasn't enough to distract me from the book as a whole and I still really enjoyed it!

I am such a fan. The author wrote this so well: characters are AMAZING, plot is so intriguing, and I was hooked.

CW/TW: Death of a parent, death/murder, blood, violence
Age Rating: 13+

- Fable was a good main character. She was smart and she wasn't boring. She had flaws and goals and emotions and was fully fleshed out.
- West was cool.
- The characters were really great.
- The writing was a bit wordy at times.
- I liked Paj and Auster together.

- I can't wait to read the next book.
