This is not an easy read since it's very dry. That being said it packs a massive punch. The things Hamilton, Madison and Jay think through almost feels like they could see the future. My takeaways are that they were very concerned about one branch of the government becoming too strong. They wanted the states to be more powerful than the centralized government. They constantly compared the president to the king and warned about giving the wrong people power.

It's depressing because we have really gone against their vision of the Constitution and our values as a political body.

The writers of the federalist assume the readers are well educated on ever political issue and the morality of their representatives. These guys would literally die (again) if they could see us now: completely uneducated about issues and the Constitution with candidates running on "vibes."

What a slog. I decided to read the constitution and the federalist papers at the behest of the Laws and Sausages web comic. (Highly recommended).

There’s a lot of valuable truth here, but the flowery writing style and long prose make it super hard to get through. They’re also *way* longer than I anticipated. 458 pages according to the kindle edition I read. It took me 20 hours to read them all. And I must admit there was a non-trivial percentage of that that went in one ear and out the other.

I did get some good highlights and some of the papers were incredibly valuable given today’s political problems. I guess I recommend everyone should read them but man it’s a hard read.

3.0 stars.

sure, it's historically significant. but it isn't something you should pick up and read on a sunny sunday afternoon.

Anyone who is curious to know what the foundations are for the American government will find this book indispensible.

Well I finished this. It was interesting to read about the thought process behind the constitution. Everything within the constitution was thought about in detail. And as they said the constitution was not perfect but nothing is.

But While I love you Hamilton this was quite #Nonstop, his sentences were #Nonstop, and this work was a bit dense and challenging to focus on.

essential if you have any inclination to figure out what those "forefathers" were all about.

Federalist Paper #23 is probably one of the most crucial essays in American history. Unlimited defense spending is built into our constitutional structure. Other papers are more or less interesting depending on the reader's particular brand of nerdhood.
