This is the type of historical I enjoy the most! While it's nice reading about the British aristocracy (in the vein of Downton Abbey), I find I relate much more to 'everyman' type characters like Edwin and Walt. I'm certainly no expert but the historical aspects felt real - right from the start with the inclusion of the Northwest Mounted Police - the precursor of today's Royal Canadian Mounted Police. And for me it is always a treat to read a book set in my home country! (Yes, the Klondike is in Canada!) :)

This story was very well written, so even though I don't generally like historical fiction, it was a nice little read for me. I enjoyed the slow burn, and I'm a sucker for the enemies to lovers trope. It seemed like the author really did their research on gold digging, but I'll never be certain since I know nothing on the subject. Sounded legit though!

Great story with a very specific historic setting. There was so much depth to this story in the setting of the scene as Edwin arrives and the description of the city and the claims. I feel like I was there, in the cold and the mud and the heat.
I know nothing about mining for gold, and neither did Edwin, but I felt I learned alongside him.
I loved the interactions and the depth of the characters. I really felt for Edwin when he was left all alone to work the mine and really worried for him that things would go wrong.
I really cared what would happen and was grateful alongside him when his knight in shining armour turned out to be the real gold.
I Loved this story from beginning to end and it had lovely smooth flow to it with a real feel for the time in which it was set.
