I LOVED jumping into this, and was so happy with this second installment!
My Throne of Glass review specifically called out that it was one of her first novels ever, and that I noticed some serious pacing issues because of that. While this book doesn't have perfect pacing, it is absolutely improved.
This second book also finished selling me on the characters too - I wanted to throttle Calaena significantly less in this book for her decisions (bless her heart) and really feel like all of the cast is starting to flesh out.
As always with SJM, I love the exciting mystery and reveals in this book, as well as the ones she has set up for the rest of the series. She does a great job at dropping tiny clues and hints to how the world will continue to flesh out - which I am so excited about.
The romance and character relationships are so well done (of course, SJM is a queen at this), and I really am interested to see where things go from here and what new characters may be introduced in the next book as we start to learn more about the world.

I don't think words can truly begin to describe the feelings I have for this book. The first one was fantastic, and I'm still in love with it. And despite everyone saying so, I didn't quite believe this would could top it. Needless to say, it did. The characters, with their complex personalities and relationships, the plot that kept me guessing, and the incredible writing all combined to make this book kind of phenomenal. If you're debating whether or not to read this series, or to continue - please. Do it. It's worth it.
