Oh Beatriz. Your books just keep getting better and better. This story about international espionage and the love of sisters kept me engaged the whole way through. Loved this story so much. And Sumner Fox was such a yummy leading man. This would make such a great miniseries
There’s a reason why Beatriz Williams is one of my fave’s authors. I love the historical insights and accuracy, not to mention the love story that entangles all of it together.
The best thing I can say about this book is that it got my back in to reading (fingers crossed). However, I took issue with many plot points, unbelievable characters, the unbelievable twist at the end, the character development that seemed to go no further than underlining Western propaganda instead of pushing the reader to understand why a character(s) made decisions, and the ending felt hurried. Could have been done so much better, yet… I kept reading and wanted to know what happened.

Less/different romance than usual—or at least, there was less chemistry in the romances for Ruth and Iris than in some of her other books. There were still good romantic relationships, but a lot more of the focus was on the more ambitious plot. I think because this one had a more technical spy plot, the interpersonal tensions were a bit lacking compared to her usual and the individual development was sacrificed to make sure the overarching plot worked. But I still had a good time and I liked the characters a lot and it was definitely not a disappointment!
